Hydrotherapy

I have delivered hydrotherapy (water based physiotherapy) sessions since early on in my career due to the extensive benefits that can be gained and the variety of conditions that can be improved whilst working in the pool. Currently I deliver weekly sessions at Embleton leisure pool, offering group and one to one sessions for a variety of problems and medical conditions. For example, to clients with mobility issues due to multiple health factors, pre and post operatively and to clients with neurological conditions, aiming to maintain and maximise function.

Both sessions involve a variety of exercises to improve strength, control, balance and flexibility and are tailored to the needs of the group and individualised in the one-to one sessions. Sessions are very different to a more general ‘Aquacise’ class, as exercises are more slow and controlled and specific to the individual’s therapeutic needs.

Could hydrotherapy benefit you?

It has been proven to help with:

  • Reducing pain
  • Speeding up and improving recovery from surgery
  • Encouraging normal movement
  • Weight-bearing for those with pain or weight-bearing restrictions on land.
  • Improved walking, balance and co-ordination
  • Increasing joint range of movement and flexibility
  • Increasing muscle strength
  • Improving circulation
  • Assisting independence and self-confidence
  • It can help aerobic fitness where appropriate

The mental health or ‘feel good’ impact of being in the water and in a group environment, with people facing similar issues and restrictions, is also something that people find particularly beneficial.

The weekly coffee and cake for my wonderful group who've been with me for several years now is also an added bonus – we regularly debate if this is actually what brings them back each week.

*Not all conditions are appropriate for the pool, so we would need to do a free initial telephone consultation to ensure that the pool is appropriate to your needs.

TESTIMONIAL

"Sarah is an excellent physiotherapist who I have been seeing for several years to help with recurrent back pain and through knee surgery (preparation and rehabilitation for an ACL injury and repair).

Sarah has always been very professional, helping me to understand the cause of my problems and how to avoid recurrences, as well as treating the pain.

Sarah has always been really positive and motivating and has adapted the rehab to be appropriate for a busy life and to be relevant to me. Guided Hydrotherapy sessions, which I then continued on my own, were particularly helpful to prepare me for and speed up recovery following my operation."
