What does HRV mean and indicate?

Reliable HRV (heart rate variability) analysis requires accurate measurement of each heartbeat and the time between beats. It is commonly accepted as an indicator of nervous system activity and results can be used to monitor stress and recovery, sleep and exercise.

How do you do this?

By wearing a personal measuring device with clinically approved medical electrodes to monitor ECG-based heart rate data for highly accurate HRV measurements. (This is the “gold standard” for HRV monitoring). Personal results are analysed and displayed in your own Firstbeat Life mobile app.

How would I use this information?

Physiological data shows how the body reacts to life, helping you understand the effect of lifestyle choices on recovery and make changes that best suit your unique situation. HRV indicates how well the nervous system and your body is responding to the demands you place upon it.

This data can help you to identify your hidden resources and strengths, as well as obstacles or development areas. You can learn to make better choices and achieve things that are important to you.

TESTIMONIAL

"Getting to know Firstbeat has been a revelation. With Sarah's expert guidance to understand the app's graphs and analyses, I can clearly see the way different aspects of my life impact on my health and wellbeing: what raises and lowers my heart rate, how heart rate variability reflects my sense of wellness, what affects my sleep patterns and how my body recovers through the day (or not) from stress and activity.

As a yoga practitioner, it's demonstrated very clearly to me the benefits of combining regular but simple exercise, such as walking, with focused breathing and yoga practice.

And as a yoga teacher, it's helped inform the way I teach, because now I have first-hand proof in the form of a simple measuring device and its associated data, that these things work!"
